Default Converting a Powerglide to a 700r4

I'm in the process of changing my 69 camaro big block automatic from a powerglide tranny to a 700 r4. Can anyone pass along some advice on the extra parts needed for the conversion and where would be the best place to get reliable parts? I was quoted $3700 to complete this job. After the sticker shock I thought I would try to see what it would cost to do myself.

I have a 396 pushing close to 400hp.
700r4 tranny- I was thinking going with TCI
Stall Converter-TCI?
Shift conversion kit-?
Drive shaft- Local
Anything else I'm forgetting?

I will also be changing out my rear end (273 10 bolt) to a 308 10 bolt posi rear. I thought I could just change out the chunk? I also recieved a quote to change out the rear and rebuild the axle of $2700. That seems a bit high. If I'm going to spend that kind of money I might as well by a brand new assembly, 12 bolt? Any suggestions on what gear ratio and rear end I should go with.

$7,000 to replace the tranny and rebuild the rear end[sm=smiley5.gif]

Default RE: Converting a Powerglide to a 700r4

A friend of mine put the 700r4 in his 2nd gen we had problems getting it to shift right and first gear was to tall and I dont think the 700 is the strongest unit out there especially behind a big block. If you are going with the overdrive trans I would think you could go with a higher gear ratio unless you are looking for top end. The 69 10 bolt is not as strong as the later 10 bolt before dumping $ into it I would look torwards the 9" ford or if you want to stay gm the 12 bolt. The cheapest way to go would be to find a later nova/ventura corp 10 bolt I am fairly sure they will bolt up to you car and would be alot stronger than what you have(the same guy with the 2nd gen has been running the corp 10 bolt for 2 yrs now with slicks a 454+ turning mid to low 7s in the 1/8th)
