I have a '94 Camaro, V6 engine, automatic trans.

Recently the engine has been struggling to turn over if it has been sitting idle for more than a few hours. The car will not turn over for the first three or so key turns, then finally sputters and comes to life. There's a strong smell of gas so fuel must be getting in there fine. If the car has been turned on recently, then it will turn on again without the slightest difficulty.

We have replaced the starter and done a full tune-up which did not help this problem in the least. We also ran a diagnostic and there were no codes.

Any light you can shed on this problem would be most appreciated, thanks!

 

do a fuel pressure test, test the evap system, test gas cap, have the coils tested, what did the old spark plugs look like? did you replace the fuel filter? is the motor turning over good when you try to start it? may be the starter is starting to fail. could pull it and have it tested, or have a starter draw test done on it while its in the car. may be a good idea to have the injectors cleaned and flow tested at an injector shop.
