That may be the case with aftermarket blocks, but there is NO way to tell the C.I. of any factory chevy motor by the casting numbers on the top/back of the block. The only exception is the late model replacement BBC had a 7.O or 7.4 cast on the block under the motor mount. Which side, I do not remember.
The casting numbers on the top back of the block were cast before the final boring of the block so that block could have gone into many different applications. People think 010 blocks ment 4 bolt mains where as it could have been put into a 327 2bolt Camaro or a 350 4bolt truck.
There is nothing stamped on the back of a block. Only cast.

the casting on my block was near the fuel pump if I remember correctly?
Anyhow, the big block valve covers are much different with 7? bolts in them apposed to the 4 in small blocks.
What did you pick it up for?

I cannot believe You bought a Race Car for $24K and don't know what motor is in it. WOW, do You want to buy some ocean front property in Arizona? Seriously, Why not ask the Guy You bought it from? Did He even tell You what the car ran in the quarter?
