a 383 is usually a 350 bored .030 over with a 3.750" stroke crank. the bore and longer stroke gives it the extra cubic inches.

o also stroke so you know is the distance the piston travels in the cylinder. (theres a different way to put it) and the way the stroke is increased is with the bigger crank. to pull the rods down farther to increase the distance the rod and piston travel. the overbore has very little change in the cubic inches of the motor. .030 overbore is only 5ci so the rest of the cubes come from the enlarged stroke.

further... When I rebuilt my 350 up to a 383 I had to have the block clearanced to accomodate the longer stroke crankshaft.

I don't know what the actual HP increase was but the you can feel torque in the seat of your pants.

This with high lift rockers and mild comp cam.. well.. it's just a smile maker

yea the block needs to be clearance lik said. also stroker motors are more torquey then traditional 350s and all

A good saying about strokers is 'Big Block torque with small block size'. It's not 100% true, but relatively speaking a stroker will put down pretty large torque numbers for the size.

the machine shop will do that. if you look where the crank is with the longer stroke if you dont hav it clearanced the rods will hit the block where the oil pan sit. if you look close in this pick you can see how close the rods come. ill post a better pic later tonight of wat the clearance spots looks lik. and some of the rod bolts are shaved for this

ok got the pics if you look at the rod bolt its shaved down in the one pic some are shaved more and some none at all. and if you look at the block you can see little notches in spots.
