As far as rebuilding the heads... do i actually need new valve and springs? or can i just do a valve job and resurface the heads?

 

It would help if you replaced the valve springs, chances are they are warn out. It's not necessary to replace the valves if they dont show any sign of damage, its just one of those things you decide is worth saving or not.
