How can I fix this rust problem short of replacement. Is there an additive to stop tank corrosion? Are others having similar problems? My fuel filter has to be replaced every 2000 miles; rust clogs it. When I replaced the pump I thought I got it all out. Seems to be fuel related since ethanol has been added to gasoline. Thanks

I have been running cars with 10% ethanol fuel for 10-15 years without any problems. Ethanol in higher concentrations is corrosive to various metals and seals and can cause leaks, unless the fuel system fas especially designed for it. However, ethanol does not cause rust. Rust in the gas tank is usually caused by moisture in the tank which condenses into water, usually due to habitually driving around with a low fuel level in the tank which leaves a lot of room for humid air to cause condensation. You may also want to check the fuel lines because if the tank is rusty, they probably have the same problems. The only good solution for a rusty tank is to replace it before it starts leaking and cause a fire.

 

I would suspect where you are getting your fuel from before i would suspect the ethanol. Ive pulled out alot of storage tanks over the years some are real clean while others are real ugly.
I would totally drain the system change the filter and try a another source.
