Default Possible to pass emissions without computer?

So, I'm fairly new to this world. I've got an 86 Sports Coupe with an Edelbrock performer carb and intake manifold, both of which were installed by a previous owner. Basically, the engine is running entirely mechanically; The computer is 100% disconnected, and a lot of the wiring is FUBAR. The car runs great, but obviously is putting out a lot of emissions, and sucks down gas pretty quick. This is just a toy car, so gas mileage is not an issue, but I would like to be able to get it legal on the road, and the laws are fairly strict here in MA. A buddy of mine give me the number of a dude nearby who he says should be able to tune the carb well enough to get the emissions close enough that maybe all that would be necessary would be $100 in the pocket of the guy doing the inspection.

So, is this possible? Could an Edelbrock Performer carb and manifold on a 305 w/ a flowmaster exhaust, Accel distributor and no computer pass emissions? (I've already got the reject sticker, so I've got 2 months of legal driving)

You have to play by the rules. If everybody did what You propose, There would be no air left for Us to breathe. I'm not one of those greenday freaks, but I do understand that there is a problem. Fix the car so it will pass inspection legally. I don't think an inspector is going to risk thousands of dollars in fines and possible jail time for a hundred bucks. if He does, He's an idiot. Once You've made it legal, You won't have to deal with that problem again.

My intentions are far from squeezing by the system. Joking around about bribes and alcohol is one thing, but what I would really hope to do is get the car legal, legally

The problem for me is that I've got 2 months until the next inspection, and I'm not sure if I'd be able to get the computer installed and working correctly in that time.

I shall try!

Hmm, interesting.

I'm gonna bring it to 'the dude' soon, have him take a look, but converting to TBI doesn't seem that unreasonable.

Is there a way of doing a rough test of the emissions on your own?

The problem is not the ECM being hooked up it is all the other items like the Carb, exhaust with no Cat that is going to fail you.

You'll fail without the cat for 100% sure.
