Default Hypertech

So i just bought my camaro... so im new to all the parts here. My car has a hypertech powerprogrammer installed... although i dont have the programmer... im trying to get it back from the kid. I also have the 160 degree stat. Is this chip bad? From what i've read im thinking about getting the programmer back and unloading it and selling it. And i was told that a 160 stat can actually steal power away if the car never leaves closed loop mode. Any suggestions?

It is not that the Hpertech is bad, it just doesn't do much for the money. As far as the engine temp, the system goes into closed loop once the O2 sensors get hot enough to work, which is determined by the exhaust gas temp, or if you have a late model with heated O2 sensors it will go into closed loop within a few minutes, regardless of coolant temp.
