Default Chip/Programmer advice

I have a 95 LT1 Six Speed. Ive read many places and heard from friends that putting performance chips or programmers are the cheapest thing you can do to raise the most HP and MPG. Has anyone had any luck with them and could recommend specific brand/series?

I have the Hypertech Max Energy programmer for my car and yes it is nice to have. you can change your top speed, shift points, rev limiter, shift firmness etc etc.. that being said it's not a good idea to go changing all those things without knowing atleast a little bit about what your doing. it's also nice to be able to read and clear SES lights. just my .02
