Default removing monsoon stereo help!!

So im reading that removing the stock monsoon stereo (01 v6 camaro) is just as simple as pulling the face plate off then pulling out the HU. So far i can only get the head unit out about an inch or so...and i can hardly reach the wires in the back...i can touch them with my fingertips but as for disconnecting them i havent the slightest clue and i dont really want to force it....
Has anyone done this????

Check out a Chilton/Haynes, go to the heater core section maybe. That should tell you where to start around the stereo area.
