Weird -- is there an opening there? One is sure not obvious...

Fixed with a drawing. It might be easier to visualize how the air gets to the lid. Basically the air goes through a sort of baffle so that no water gets to the air filter.

Cool

Ok, my Trufiber hood arrived (very lightweight to lift!), car is at the body shop...

Now this last photo is from my SLP SS original hood, and notice the air holes are lower to align with the OEM airbox entry slot. Looks like this is the reason for the poor gains with this hood -- modification will be required to make proper use of this I see...

Unhappy

So I phoned Trufiber and told them about this issue, and they say nobody has ever told them that the hood underside holes do not line-up with the air box intake slit. I have to wait until tomorrow to see what they are going to do about this. I also had some fender gaps, could be accident related, but more likely due to the fiberglass hand laying according to the body shop. Heck even my SLP SS hood has some gaps, but not as pronounced...

I cannot understand why people do not call when they get a hood with issues, they say they've sold 100s already -- how is it I am the first to call about this?

Can you do me a favor and measure from the bottom of the hood inside to the where the air opening starts -- trying to understand if the SLP Ultra Z hood was aligned to the airbox slot fully or not -- looks like it's higher than the SLP SS hood... Thanks!

Because people don't order that hood and expect it to add performance to their car. They order it because it looks good, or they needed a new hood. However, the gap problem is definately something you should be concerned about if it is that bad.

My hood was 2.25" from the bottom to where the opening starts. Dont forget that ls1 cars fenders are a quarter inch taller so that they can clear the factory lid. that may make a difference.

Except they ADVERTISE IT AS "FULLY FUNCTIONAL RAM AIR!" So I expect nothing less with the factory air cleaner system.

Thanks -- 2.25" on the original SLP Ultra Z hood, correct? First I heard that LS1 F-bodies had taller fenders! Do you have a source that confirms this? The car this hood is going on is not an LS1 though -- 3.8L RS...

Well if the fenders are truly higher on an LS1 Camaro, then this hood could sit a little different on a non LS1 car in contrast to the fenders...

For comparison on the air exit under the hood, here's the SLP Ultra Z install guide, see the diagrams -- they include the air guiding strips with it just like the SLP SS hood and goes right into the factory location:

Trufiber clearly screwed up.
