Default Difference Between P215/60R16 and P225/60R16?

I need some help. I have a 1995 3.4L V6 camaro, and I need new tires.

The tires that are on it now are P225/60R16, but apparently the manufacturer recommends P215/60R16.

Just wondering, what is the difference between the tires? And also do the different sizes affect the speedometer or anything like that? Any information is welcome. Thanks!!

Also I read that P235/55R16 can also be put on the car.

Stock the cars options go up to 245.55/r16. the difference is this.
the first number (225 in this case) is the width of the tire. i believe in mm.
the second number (in this case 60) is the height of the top of the tire to the top of the rim.
the third number (16 right now) is the diameter to match of the rim.
The second and third number can effect the speedometer. The first however will not. the wider the tire, the better grip. but also worse gas mileage sometimes.
If its a daily driver that you do nothing with, just use the 215's. Or if you get rough with it, put another set of 225s or 235s on it. and if you are really aggressive you can put 245s on.

9434V6 is right. HOWEVER, the second number is a ratio of the first number. It's a percentage. So a 215/60/16 will be smaller in diameter than a 245/60/16 as well as narrower.

So a 245/45/17 will be very close to the same height as a 275/40/17... The first and second number work together to create the sidewall height.

This explains it in depth.

But as for your question, the 215/60/16 will be narrower and smaller in diameter than the 225/60/16

I had 215/60/16 on steel wheels on my camaro then switched to 225/60/16 once i got 16x8 oem wheels, it raised the car height about a inch from the looks of it since the tire is larger in diameter.
