Any oil showing on the dipstick? When bottoming a car out (who knows what was under the snow), you take a chance of ripping open the oil pan or tearing off the oil drain plug area. Hopefully you didn't run the engine dry.

Make sure your vehicle is in neutral and wheels blocked when you are trying to turn the engine with a ratchet. Also, you say something looks like it is stuck in the starter, your bendix hasn't spun out and hung up in the flywheel has it?
If the tranny is in neutral and you have a ratchet or breaker bar, you should be able to turn the engine over pretty easy. You will have some resistance as the cylinders will have pressure as the pistons move up and down but it shouldn't be so hard that you cannot rotate the crank.

did you notice a check gage light or ses light? did you notice how the oil pressure was? if the motor is siezed up then you may have spun a bearing? did the clicking stop right before it died? what coolant mix are you using? could it be that the coolant froze up on you?

So yesterday I took out the starter. I looked at it and to my untrained eye looked normal. But I shook it and it sounded like their are loose parts in dude of it. Is that normal? I think in going to buy a new one today so I'll see how that goes.

If you shake a starter, you may be able to hear the bendix gear rattle, and definitely hear and feel some end play in the armature. That's normal. If you don't see the bendix gear slid out to the opening of the cone, then that part of it should be fine. You can bench test the starter using jumper cables, just hang on to it, or do it on the floor and hold it down with your foot. If the motor runs and the bendix gear jumps all the way out when you hook it up, then the gear pops back in after you disconnect power, the starter is fine. Check it first, before possibly wasting your money.

were you ever able to rotate the engine by hand? If not, you may have a seized engine.
