$3800 for a 02 with 74,000 seems low. I check the Kelly Blue book for my area and with only a few basic options it is listing $4970 in good condition for private sale.

THe V-8 version lists at $7370. Go to www.KBB.com and input your info from your location. That is a data base of what the cars have sold for recently. I really think your to low for a V-6. You will not be happy with a 20 year old 3rd gen unless you get a 90's plus 350. Even then a 20 year old unrestore car will most likely have issues. A 93 V-8 will blow all factory 3rd gens away.
200hp and 30 MPG highway is a pretty nice setup. Your v-6/5 speed is in demand.

gorn, heres a list of the kbb private party conditions. id rate my care in good, reason for that is not many cars these days really are in excellent condition.
Value:
Excellent $5,445
Good $4,970
Fair $4,395
so with that being said i know i have been back and forth on this car. to sell it or not to. to supercharge it or not to. to engine swap or not to. to sell and buy a 3rd gen or 4th gen or not to. so i have decided. just to do basic mods and keep my car and my cheap insurance along with better fuel economy.
with that being said i know i can get a cat back dual exhaust and a k&n intake. anything else you guys recommend? also with the exhaust i hear that if you go to 3 inch thats to big that 2.5 is the way to go...truth to that rumor? with basic mods can i get at least say 20-30 hp? 20-30tq? i appreciate all the help!!!

Hey man I feel your pain I have a 94 Camaro 3.4L V6 and have been contemplating the same thing. To either drop a new LS1 engine in or just try to upgrade the engine I already have. When I bought my camaro I got it for a good deal. The engine and the body, and interior were in great condition. When I first drove it I loved it. I did all the stuff need to make sure that the engine was good and I never thought about changing anything on it other then maybe changing the headlights. Till I was on the Autobahn getting passed by ungoverned 5 series BMW’s and Audi A5’s, and A6’s and even then I was keeping up pretty well…..……That was when I thought about moding my engine. And found the difficulty in getting it over 300 hp from a stick V6………I have guys that I work with that all they do is work on aircraft, and vehicle engines for a living and in when there off work they work on their cars own cars to take them to the track. Two people that I work with have either a camaro 02 and a firebird 02 that have V8 engines in them and have done allot of work on them. The one guy that has the camaro has already put well over 20k in his car from upgrading his engine from a LS1 to a LS6, along with upgrading his suspension because he wanted more power and handling. The other has a LS1 in his Firebird but didn’t go as extreme but still put about 10k more into upgrades. They both bought the cars because they liked them and got them for a good deal. The advice they said both gave me was that even though I have a V6 I at least have a base to work with. You don’t have to get a V8 camaro because even if you have a V8 Camaro you’re still going to end up putting money into the engine, and suspension. It all comes down to how much you want to spend. I’m in the Army and have 2 kids that I support. I make pretty good money but I’m by far not rich. There advice was to start small if wanted to stay with my stock V6. So that you can see the difference……They said to do a compression check to see if you have lost any power and if so to try and get it tracked down. So that you can get some of your stock power back if any has been lost which is more than likely because of age. And this is something you can do yourself. You can get the compression check tool online for 30-40 bucks, or rent one at like an AutoZone. Along with getting a Hayes or Chilton manual that will give you detailed instructions on how to do it. They are very useful books. It will also tell you all the services that should be done or should have been done. After that getting things like a Jet Stage 1 or 2 power control chip, CAT Back Exhaust, Iridium plugs, ignition coils, Coil Interface Modules, 8.5mm, High amp Alternator, 180 degree low temp thermostat, Low resistant’s pulley set, and a stage 1 clutch. Doing these things will improve low end speed and overall performance allot, and not have to worry allot about blowing your engine on a turbo or supercharger, and will only cost you about 2k. Here is a good site that you can get some of the stuff from that I got off this forum http://www.ftpp.net/V6Main.htm. And there are other things that you can especially with your engine being newer than mine, but that will at least be a start. It may not be a V8 but In the long run if you think about how often are you going to really be either racing someone or trying to do over a 100, and not worry about getting stopped by the cops or getting in a accident. Unless you’re planning on going to a track all the time, or live in Germany where there are parts of the high way that you can go as fast as you want but even by their laws it’s not recommended for you to go over 100 mph. And it gets old quick after having to pay for all the gas you just burned for your short need for speed. Which in the end can and will cost you more money and possible your license. If these aren’t things you worry about, and have the money to spend on getting a LT1 or bigger engine. Then an engine change would be the way to go. Because in the end it’s going to cost you about the same if not more to buy a Z28 and upgrade it.
