You also missed the grand a half it will cost you for engine internals, like springs, valves, new rods, pistons, etc. You cannot run a stock engine and just slap a supercharger on it. The compression between the two isn't the same.

You say you are worried about buying a V8 cause it might not be dependable. Increasing a stock 3.8 to 300 HP with out all new upgraded bottom end will make for a very undependable engine. Read thru this sites there are page after page of cars with blown head gaskets and damaged cranks without super charges. Your transmission with start to have issues at 280HP. It will need upgrading along with your rearend. Sure you can add a super charger for 3K but by the time you upgrade your motor, tranny and rear to handle it that 3K will be the cheap part.

One thing about todays cars the are designed for the motor in them. You can add 20% HP to most cars and still have a dependable car. It would be cheaper to buy a V-8 with a known engine issue and just rebuild the whole drive train with slight mods. At least you know everthing will hold up to 350-400Hp.

Ahh yeah.. they make it seem so good haha. Well their running at over 8 psi, pretty high for a stock engine, and their also using 104 octane racing gas. And their still only pulling 260+.. missing almost 100 horse compared to the Z28's

Well if you do not want to buy used the motor by itself is 6K. I would imagine if you bought everything new it would cost around 12K. Most people buy a wrecked cars and transplant everything over.

you can run 6-8 psi on anything safely, as long as its tuned properly.

ok guys i have an update on my situation. i had a guy offer to buy my camaro for $3800 cash. he said he could care less about my 3.8 v6. he just wants a car that is straight with no frame damage so he can drop an ls1 in it. not for nothing but if i sell the car to him and he does this. he will have to do more work than that right? suspension, tranny work?

also browsing craigslist. i have found MANY thirdgen cars. but when i look up the tq and hp on them im sad. for instance a 92 z28 230hp, 300tq (5-speed). i mean ya the tq kicks my v6's a$$ but hp not so much. am i missing something?

Yeah he's gonna have to do all the work we listed, he's probably in over his head.

As far as the third gen cars, that sounds about right. Nope, your not missing anything. The big thing is your car has 10 years advance on the technology. But because of the high ft/lbs of torque it's going to take off a lot harder than your V6
