trouble code p 440

age will kill the hoses and the best way I know of to fix it all is to give them a visual inspection and bend and move them to make any hidden cracks visable.

The purge soleniod is on the driver's side upper intake right near the thermostat housing. It is black and will have one of the fuel lines attached to it. make sure that it is bolted down tight and that there is a good seal on the O ring.

ok i knew that already just wanted someone to confirm that that was it. thanks ill try replacing it. oh also i tried checking the code again with my obd2 scanner and it doesnt work. i plugged it in and it doesnt even come on but when i plug it into another car it does work. whats up with that??

Check your fuses for a blown one, primarily the cigarette/power outlet one that supplies power to the OBD port in many GM cars.

so those of you that replaced the purge solenoid did you replace it because it was bad or did you just replace it to see if it would fix the problem. and did it fix the problem and make the check engine light go out.

where is the canister vent solenoid located at and what does it look like

on the 3.8L it is on the upper intake just behind the throttle body. On the LS1 it is sitting near the middle of the left side valve cover. they are both black with hoses and wires going into them. The purge system also has a sensor on the fuel pump.

well i replaced the purge solenoid and cleared the code sunday evening. check engine lite is still off. does anyone know if it does come back on when it will...is it after so many miles or how many warm starts...?

hey guys thanks for all of your help it turns out it was the purge solenoid that needed to be replaced. the little rubber o ring was worn out. solved my problem when i replaced the whole part.
