Default ss springs on a v6?

Hey, im new here and just bought a 1998 camaro v6. It had worn out shocks and i think cut springs. so it rides like jello. My question is should what are the best replacement springs? I would like them to perform better than stock but dont really want them to be lowering because i am going to drive it through the mn winters. Also what are the best shocks to go with the springs for under $400?
thanks in advance

Sounds like you have stock shocks, which are supposed to be controlling the springs, but are not. How many miles on the car? Install some SLP Bilsteins first and see what you think. Also some SS swaybars.

the car has 123 thousand miles. when i got the car their was spring spacers on it so i think the springs are cut. would the slp bilsteins be different that the regular bilstein?

^ Are you on stock shocks (orange deCarbon/Delphi)? If so, they have got to go... 123k and your stock shocks are more than done for.

SLP Bilsteins are supposedly ~5% more oomph in the rear and cheaper than Bilstein HDs -- both are lifetime warranty from Bilstein.

ANY lowering springs or cut stock springs are not going to work well for long with shocks not engineered to support them. That means you would want adjustable shocks to deal with the lowered springs. Non-adjustables just don't last with cut or lowering springs...

Might be helpful if you post pics of the spacers and "cut springs"...

I support Liberty in this thread... Holy craaaaaaaaaap.

Get a nice set of shocks and stock replacement springs. If you're only looking to spend $400 on shocks/struts AND springs, you're in for a world of hurt.

If you want shocks to go with your cut springs, then you'll have to get some good adjustables which are also gonna end up over the $400 mark.

KYB AGX handle lowering springs pretty well along with Koni. I have QA1s and they're good with stock springs but they're too much with lowering springs. Any non-adjustable will suck with lowering springs.

KYBs will run you roughly $400 and Koni around $800

^ LOL, forget the QA1s if you care about handling and drive on the street -- those are drag shocks. Koni would be the first choice, but you're talking $850 minimum just for the shocks...

QA1 FTW ^_^ Fine for what I do with them. But I do go to the strip a lot heh.

Honestly I'd just go with KYB AGX tbh... About 400 bucks gets you a nice set of shocks that handle lowering springs pretty well. They're also good for handling.

i know that the shocks on it are stock and i know someone cut the springs too. i want to spend a max of $400 on shocks and maybe $150 in springs. I dont really want to lower the car, it would get stuck in snow that much easyer. and i will try to post pics of the spacers (if thats even what their called) and springs later in the after noon.

Ws6store.com has Bilsteins for under $400, and ya could just buy used V6 springs, but note that the V6 spring rates vary over the years , i.e. the '02 V6 springs are a better choice than a '95. Do the install yourself to save cash - not hard just time consuming in the front. You may need replacement upper shock mounts in the front. Rears are a breeze. Ls1howto.com has write-ups with pics.
