Tranny Filter
Hey everyone,
This is half informational, half question lol ....My check engine light has been coming on for years now, and I've had it checked. It isn't anything important, but still it doesn't go away. Its a 95 4G maro that is basically stock except for an exhaust, however the light came on before the install. I am suspecting that I have a filthy tranny filter. I have been putting off changing it for a while now, but one of these weekends I'll get around to it. The job is around $100, and I'm hoping it will rid the check engine light. So if you have the same problem this may be something that works for you. Something like a tranny filter is not an everyday problem so I think we forget about it. My question is if anyone has gone through the same thing, and saw results from changing it? Every now and then I hear a back fire (a low pitch, not often at all). Could this be related? I also noticed that it was only when I bought fuel at one particular gas station? Maybe there was a bit of water residing in the fuel? My motor runs great (knock on wood), she is truely a beauty, but something seems a little sluggish, could it all be related to the filter? Maybe its time for a tune up? I'm currently driving with 110,000 miles (I'll have to check when the last tune up was). All of my oil changes are religiously on time ....any info, comments or questions would be great. I'll post my results when I finally change the darn thing

What code did you get? All check engine lites are important to the performance of the car. A dirty tranny filter will not bring up a MIL lite, but dirty tranny oil can cause solenoids and shift valves to stick, which bring up their own special codes. Is it backfiring out of the exhaust or out of the intake?
