Starting Trouble
My car is having trouble starting sometimes. When I try and start sometimes, the security light will stay on and won't start. My electrical system will work though.
A quick Google search shows that I should turn my key forward until my electrical system comes on and leave it there for 10 minutes. True or false?
Also, tonight when I was driving home, it seems like my alternator stopped working for a few seconds. Everything in my car dimmed (lights, dash, etc.) and my battery voltage jumped down to only 13 volts. After a few seconds, it jumped right back up to 17 and all of my lights went back to full functionality.
My alternator, battery, and serpentine belt are all brand new. I don't think the problem would be coming from any of them?
I also have an after-market stereo system (2 rockford P1's with an 1800W Kenwood amp). Do you think that would wear my alternator/battery down? Some guys I work with think the starting issue is related to my electrical system, but Chevrolet uses the PassKeyII system and the 10 minute reset I did earlier fixed the issue.
Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

Dirty or worn contacts on key and ignition switch preventing the security module from seeing the proper resistance from pellet on key. Try cleaning the key and ignition switch, or get a new key.
As for your amp. A 130 amp alternator is maxed out at 1500 Watt, so if you are maxing out the amp it will draw 1800 Watt, which mean the other 300 Watt are coming from the battery. Run that way long enough and the battery will go dead.
