Default Starting issues

Have a small issue with my camaro starting. Its a 1994 V-6 3.4. Sometimes when i go to crank it, it just ticks(not a continuous tick, but just 1 tick). Then i turn off the ignition off and back on a couple of times and it cranks fine. I know the battery cables are tightened all the way. I was thinking about taking the starter off and taking it to get tested but if it's something simpler than that, i would rather go the easy route first.

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

clean the battery cable connections. if theres crud in there it will not matter how tight they are. otherwise have it tested. may be the solonoid, lose wire at the starter or bad ground at starter.

Checked the battery cables, they look great. Would taking off the starter and getting it tested be the next step, Or is there something else i can check before i do that.

Thanks

Is the tick coming from the starter? Have someone else start your car, and try to ID where the tick is coming from -- if so, your starter may be on the way out... You can always check the electrical connections to the starter for corrosion, and see if there's anything leaking in that area. i.e. an oil leak dripping onto the starter entering via a small hole on the unit.

Make sure it's not a starter-to-block or block-to-frame ground issue. Clamp one end of a jumper cable to the body of the starter, and the other end to the negative side of the battery. Make sure you have a good clean connection on the starter.
If it still clicks, jump the metal shafts of two screwdrivers across each other while touching each one to both of the terminals on the solenoid. Or you could use a remote starter switch if you have one, but that takes some of the fun, and sparks, out of it. Doing that will bypass your keyed ignition and will activate the starter directly if it's good. Still nothing? Get a new starter.
