car starting issues...
Hey guys, Im having a problem with the ignition switch I believe. Every now and then The car would give me problems starting up. It has power with the key in theIgnition, I'll hold down the clutch pedal and turn the key and It wontturn over. I dont hear the starter either. Its getting all the necessary power by the looks of it. It starts up probably 5 minutes after trying and failing the first time.It shouldnt be the alternator, and I dont think the distributor would affect it this way either.
Sounds like your starter bolts might be loose, check the 2 bolts on your starter and make sure there nice and tight. And it wouldent be the dist. if its your starter thats not getting power. How many kms/miles on the car? Could just be a faulty starter.
I actually just posted a new thread elsewhere about my problem... (my bad)... anyway, im not too smart when it comes to electrical aspects of a car, and i cant figure out why my camaro wont start... Let me explain
I have an 89 camaro, and i believe its a 350... not completely sure though cuz i recently got it off my brother... Well my brother left it sit without starting for a couple months since he is in the Navy. Well anyway, i tried to start it recently and it wouldnt start, it wouldnt even turn over, just made a loud constand clicking noise... So i tried jumping it, no difference, still made the same loud clicking noise.
Any help??

Is it an 89 with a passkey? A little more info never hurts.
If it is the wires may be breaking by the lock cylinder. Either that needs to be replaced or bypassed. If you have an ohm meter you can test it.
Measure the resistance of the key pelet. Then coming out of the column is two small wires in a soft orange conduit along with all the other wires for the blinker and wiper. Unplug the wires and with the key in the lock meaure the restistance between the two on the column side of the harness. Should be two small white wires. The resistance should match what the key pelet has. May also want to test it with the key in the run postion as the wires that break move by the lock cylinder.

haha... Thanks for the response mad mike... but that first response completely confused me, im a little new at all this stuff... i know some about cars and engines, but not a whole lot about electrical... So if there is anyway you could put that first response in simple terms for me, i might understand it,.... haha..
And if the starter is froze, what can i do about that?

The first response is for the OP. If you were having that problem you would not even get a loud click.
You could try tapping on the starter with a hammer to see if it frees up. But even if it does it could get stuck again. Or remove the starter and take it to a parts store and have it tested.

Both of my third gen Camaros made a loud click exactly like he exsplained when they had low batteries.
