Default She won't start! :( Looking for suggestions...

My 96 Camaro 3.8 is just about to hit 100K miles. I hadn't had any problems since I got it 20,000 miles ago...until today.
The car won't start...won't turn over...not even a clicking sound from the starter...nothin. All the lights and sounds work...so I don't suspect a battery. I tried jump starting it anyway...no luck though. All the fuses look good and the battery connections look fine too.
I was starting to suspect a starter or relay...But I was unable to push start it by popping the clutch (I tried several times with a alotta speed).
I'm starting to wonder if the problem isn't in the starting system at all. Another funny thing I noticed is that when the key is turned over, the "security" light flashes. I've never notcied it flashing in the past. My car does not have an alarm, so maybe there is some factory security system that I'm not aware of that the light is refering to.
I'm kinda running out of ideas. I'm hoping someone on the forum has some experience with a similar problem. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem too. I didn't notice the security light but I'll check that too. Right before this happened I was able to pull the key out of the ignition and the car kept running. I was thinking there might be a short. It does make sense that this would be a security issue though.

Try a new ignition key, the resistor may have gone bad or making poor contact. The cars came with factory security system, which checks to see if the key has the proper resistor pellet. If the new key still doesnt work, the resistor contacts in the switch may be bad, bad wiring or bad security module.

Yeah, I am starting to find that out through more research. I will have to look at the key. I took it in on a trade and the keys were very small. I can't imagine there being a resistor in the ones I was given. There is the door key and then the square ignition key. They are very small. Anyway, when I get out to where the car and the keys are I will check. Thanks for your help!Ken

my car is a 2001 and it does the same thing, every once in awhlie when i go to start it,the security light will come on and she wont start, but if i let it sit for about 4 min with the key in the on position, the light will go off and it starts right up,benn this way for awhile...i was told it was because the resistor in the key was going out

I took my car to the shop and they attempted to diagnos and fix the problem...I got a call back and they told me I would have to take it to the dealer. One of my co-workers said he had the same problem with his caprice and he took it to the local car audio/car alarm place and they bypassed the system for him. I think I am just going to go ahead and do that. It beats going to the dealer and it will prevent any more problems like tis in the future! I'll let you know how it works out.

If you want to bypass the system, this site shows how to do it.

well, i had the exact same problem a few weeks ago. all the lights worked and crap, but it wouldn't even attempt to start. i had it towed in and fixed, but was unable to talk to the mechanic who actually worked on my car. next time i'm down that way i'll stop in and ask what the problem was. all i know is that they adjusted something on the bottom of the car.

Thanks for the link. I had just found that through searching and searching before you posted. I am going to do the bypass too. I should be able to get to it in the next couple of days or so. Let us know how it turns out Luggy. I'll do the same.
