Default Service Engine Soon light

Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum! I just bought a 99 camaro last week. I got 2 issues.. the "service engine soon" light is always on but the car runs great.. also the "security" light is always on... can I reset them?[&:]

the ses light can be shut off by an obd2 or disconecting the batt over night. acctually i would try the battery thing cuz it may fix the security light also.

The MIL can be erased by a scan tool or by a DTC reader that is available for use at an AutoZone, free of charge. It's probably best, in your case, to read what the complaint is. If I were to just buy a car and the MIL was on, I'd most certainly check to see what the complaint is. There are literally thousands of things it could be, so don't rule it out.

The other, less productive attempt is what was stated previously. Remove the battery cables for a minimum of 15 minutes and it should reset. However, if the code has been persistent, it will more than likely throw the MIL back on when the vehicle has been driven through three complete diagnostic cycles.

hmm..well i'm off tomorrow so maybe i'll ride down to autozone.

Wise choice. Have it scanned and then write the codes down. Share with us what you find for a better understanding if you'd like.

ok well i just got back from autozone.. 2 of the codes were manufacturer controlled, 1 said cyl 6 misfire and the other was something to do with idolling..

we are gonna change the plugs n wires too..so that might take care of some of it
