Service Engine Soon?!

Service Engine Soon?!
So my inspection ends at the end of this month and my service light popped on. So I drove to Auto-Zone and let them use the diagnostics computer on it, and it turns out it's the Cattylic Converter.
Anyone know an easy way around this before inspection? I'll eventually fix it, I just dont have $300 right now, nor the time to replace it. I tired d/c-ing the "-" battery post for a bit and the sensor is still on.
Anyone else have this problem and know what to do?

How many miles on the car? Check with the dealer. By law they have to warranty the catalytic converters for a certain number of years/miles (its way beyond the warranty on the rest of the car) and it may still qualify to have the dealer replace it.
You won't get it inspected without the SES light and code being gone. There are ways to remove the code and reprogram it but you have to know what you are doing - then you have to drive the car for about 65 miles to re-set a whole driving cycle before an OBD scan will pass the car.
