Default Rough Idle

Hi everybody. I just got a 2000 Camaro. It has the 3.8 and the auto tranny. When I got it it was idling real rough, ran great, just didn't like to idle. it wouldn't die, just sit there and shake. So, I got out my trusty scanner and found out that I had a random cylinder misfire code. Strange because the CEL wasn't on, maybe its burnt out? Anyway, I put new plugs and plug wires on it. Rescanned it and it was misfiring on cylinders 3 and 6. So I changed out the coil pack. Now it is running better but, still not real smooth. I took off the throttle body and cleaned it. Did the same with the MAF. Still not real smooth. I wanted to clean the IAC but couldn't find it. Anybody have any ideas? When I am driving it, it drives fine. Just don't like to idle.

Is the 2000 Drive by wire? If so I do not think it has a IAC motor.

Ive got some cheap injector cleaner in there now. Will get some sea foam. The scanner says its running 14.7 to 1. The O2 sensors look fairly new. And yes, the 2000 is drive by wire, and that would explain the lack of the IAC!

Didn't even think about that. Not a bad idea, even if thats not the problem it cant hurt to check it out.

Well, I just went on about a 140 mile test run, came back rescanned it and got the random cylinder misfire code again. Checked it out and it cylinders 3 and 6 again. I cant imagine the control module only being bad on those to cylinders. But at the same time, what else is there? It almost has to be the module, right?

Yet another update! I took the old module off and took it to the local parts store. They tested it and guess what? Its bad! So, I picked up a new one, put it on and so far the idle is much better!

Take out and clean your IAC motor. Use seafoam or TB cleaner. Your IAC controls your idle as well.

If you can get the Lucas Fuel system cleaner. It works better than the Sea Foam does and it is cheaper. Here the 32oz bottle costs $10 and it treats your engine about 6 times. The Sea Foam is like $8 and it is one treatment. They both clean and they both lubricate the injector pintles but IMO the lucas does better. When I get a new car I add it every tank through one bottle then after that I only add it when I change the oil. My fuel systems are clean and my car runs good.

Actually Lucas is good to use EVERY oil change (or every month even), and Sea Foam maybe once a year, from what I have read. Supposedly Sea Foam is stronger.
