Ram air vs. cold air induction
#21
No, the CAI intake is below where the air enters the airbox from ram air scoops.
Also, the SS hood is less effective at higher speeds due to the placement of the scoop on the hood -- air has a tendency to pass right over that area, but the CAI helps out more in that situation.

yea, actually it makes sense to me that if the ss hood with all its plumbing (i dont even know how that hood actually can work with all the plumbing bull****, its probably a very weak amount of air coming in) but if you have an SLP air box lid with the air intake and you have the hood just shooting air into that it cant hurt, infact it seems like it would definitely be more eficient.

Exactly!! The higher speeds make the low pressure zone larger and therefore the fast moving air is higher on the hood going right over the top of the scoop

What people don't realize it that these cars pick up more air from the bottom of the car. When at speed, the air hits the nose and the faster you're going, the more the higher pressure air will rebound from the nose. The high pressure air doesn't even hit the car again until the windshield.
Case in point... Drive 60 MPH in the rain and see how much the water moves on the hood of the car. Barely any at all.
The nose also pushes air under the car and actually serves as a better intake area because the air has nowhere to go. That's why the FTRA is designed to pull air from below the car. There is MUCH more cool high pressure air in front of the radiator and flowing beneath the car [that's why the radiator is there right? To pick up that cool air ].

The SLP CAI does not feed from the same area the hood does. The SLP CAI comes down in front of the radiator and is meant to pick up air from under the car. The hoods are more for just looking good, there really isn't a noticable difference between having a ram air hood and not; that is why a Formula will run the same time as a WS6 and a Z28 the same time as a SS.
