Project Sleeper
#18
Pistons and rods came today, but they're at home, so no pics until Saturday. They're used, came from a supercharged 3.8, so 8.5:1 compression.
Measured the cylinders in the block at school today, everything is in good shape, so I'm just going to de-glaze them. Also noticed that it needs new cam bearings, and I'm going to replace the freeze plugs while I'm working on it. After some cleaning, I'm amazed to report that the original black paint is still there, and looks almost new. Placing my order with scoggin ****ey tomorrow, this will be the list from them:
dampener
rings
rod bearings
main bearings
arp rod bolts (machine work required to run these, otherwise it'll spin a bearing)
arp head studs
new cam bolts (original is 1-time use)
engine gasket kit
cam bearings
arp flywheel bolts
Then I'll place an order with ZZP, intense racing, and abbott racing heads next week for the other junk I need. I'm going to use the heads that came on the engine, just going to have them re-surfaced, 105 springs, new retainers, locks, seals, valve job, etc.
Decided on colors finally, black block, silver heads, black valve covers with silver stripes, and silver intake with black accents. headers will be coated silver. When the current engine comes out, I plan on doing the "wire mod", and doing some serious cleaning on the paint under the hood. I'd also like to relocate the coil pack, and move some wires around. In other words, not be ashamed to leave the hood open at shows, I had to leave it closed last year due to the ugly under there right now.
Haven't decided on what to do about an intercooler yet, it's popular to cut out the front bumper and let it show, but that gives away what's going on. The base model camaro's that didn't have foglites had little grilles where the lights would be, I think I'll do that, or mount it horizontal under the bumper. Either way, it won't be showed off like everyone else does.
Another few things that I'll have to do is the pcv bypass mod, larger injectors, wideband, put a breather on the valve cover, and get rid of the howling 4.10 gears for something taller. When it's all said and done, I'll have it trailered do a shop in Washington that will dyno tune it.
GAME ON!
