Fuel pump isn't to hard to change.

Well I just used the fuel pressure tester and this was my result:
Engine off with the key on: 22psi
Engine running: Bouncing from 20-25psi
I'm not sure if that's where it's supposed to be or not. Can someone give me some insight? What is the factory psi rating on the fuel system?

Yeah I know they're not hard to change. I just don't have the $200 for a damn pump. I have car insurance coming up ($150) and I have to pay a $125 ticket for a "stop sign violation" and I'm sitting on about $300..... It's bad.
without a book I am going to guess that it is a little low but not bad. Does the car idle good? When you need more pressure the FPR closes and does not let as much fuel back into the tank which improves rail pressure and thus supplies more fuel for acceleration and high speed running. just revving the engine wont help since there is no load. and with a manual tranny it is hard to give the car a load without messing up the clutch. Is there any way you can SAFELY drive the car while monitoring the fuel pressure?

I might be able to run it down the road and back. And the car idles fine for about 15 seconds and then tries to die until I start pumping the gas. Once I get it running down the road, it gets better and stops sounding like a lawn mower.
This is sounding to me like a FPR problem. when you unplug the vacuum line does any fuel come out? Try that first... if so get a new one. I had identical symptoms on a 2001 Alero I used to own. my problems were 2 fold, bad FPR and a Ford fuel pump that was installed and didn't produce enough pressure.

maybe stuck open then. Try applying vacuum to the FPR and see if the way the engine runs changes, or if the fuel pressure increases. The engine should run rich for a few seconds before the computer tries to lean it all out.

fuel pressure should be around 43 lbs at thottle up or with fpr unpluged. 37 lbs at idle with fpr vacuum plugged in. fpr or fuel pump is failing. well could be plugged fuel filter. take it out and dump it in clean container from the tank side to see if its full of crud.
