There is a lot of talk about more speed via modifications, but what are the modifications that will not negatively impact gas mileage and/or actually improve it?

Seems that a CAI is in the category of more power and better gas mileage. (Ignoring for the moment that if you drive the car like a bat out of hell, you will lose gas mileage) ;-)

ok...most basic mods will in theory improve gas mileage and economy, some very little, and others next to nothing...

the ones I think would decrease economy would be gears, cam, and internal building

ignition, exhaust, and intake will improve, and you could even say weight reduction, pullies, and even an aluminum driveshaft technically improve efficiency = improved economy

Concur. Smooth intake and a good catback add mpg, and keeping her tuned-up and fresh sensors...
