That's looks pretty sharp. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I'll have the time to do anything with it. I gotta get it back together and on the road. I'll keep it in mind for the future.

 

I did Sarah's Intake black then filed the "3800 Series II" to make the letters nice and bright. The end result looked similar to what 96's car looks like. Check my garage I think there is a pic or 2 of it in there. In all honesty it only took a couple minutes to do and I let it dry overnight and it was fine the next morning when I installed it.

Having a choice, I would shy away from black for parts that can show leaks (like engine, transmission, etc.) because it will be MUCH harder to see a leak vs. an aluminum, silver or gray part...

 

gm crate engine is black, intake does not get oil leaks on it very often

 

GM paints them black for a reason . GM considers oil seepage normal and started painted their engines black around the time warranties started getting extended. They even admitted the reason for the color change.

I like the looks of that engine.

I am an older generation. If a SBC was not leaking a "little" from the valve cover it was because if was just rebuilt and it was not started yet. The old Vet show guys all had "special" tools got cleaning around the valve covers

I think the rule a quart of oil in a 1000 miles is a lot worse then the seapage one. But the truth be known I know a few people that had both "issues" and over the 10 year life of the car it had no effect other than about 100 extra quarts of oil. As the GM rep said, we do not build show cars we build cars to get you from point A to point B in comfort. If the car is not doing that bring it in.

 

lol. Color camouflage is nothing new. The English Redcoats were that way so that their enemy couldn't see them bleed. And the Italian army wore brown pants for other reasons!
