I've got a 94 v6, no engine mods yet, just interior, body, etc.
The other day, while coming home from work, i stopped to get some jerky and a drink at a gas station. Getting back in the car, I started driving away, and noticed that my brake pedal went almost all the way to the floor before the brakes actually engaged.
Since I could still stop the car, I drove home, got her up on jacks and found out that a brake line had rusted through (the big one that goes back to the rear drums). Since most of the line was also rusty, me and my buddy replaced the whole thing the next day.
We bent and installed the new line, then went ahead and completely replaced the old brake fluid, and bled the lines of any air. The problem is; even after all that, the brakes still feel exactly the same as when i drove home with the broken line. there's no leaks, nothing's missing, but the brakes engage when the pedal is about an inch off the floor. Before the line broke, the brakes were rock solid, but now, even with the new line and fluid, they still feel like the line is broken. Also, my BRAKE warning light is on, and i cant get rid of it.

You may have damaged the master cylinder when your brakes failed. Occasionally, when a brake pedal goes close to the floor, the excessive travel damages the seals on the master cylinder, especially one that has been around for many years, as in your car. It seems to me that only half of the master cylindermay be working, or there still isair in the system. Also, check the brake hoses for swelling when under pressure, and the ajustment on the rear brakes.

alright, new master cylinder arrives tomorrow, so by mid afternoon We'll see if it was the problem.
and to Fonzi: i did have that problem, (I'll see if it's still there after the repair) but when I would apply the brakes, the car would kick into a bad shake, which would even jerk the steering wheel side to side in my hands. Got kinda scary on the days when the shaking was really bad.

Another related note -- your struts/shocks heavily affect your braking too -- I had some wild back brake problems that cleared up a lot when I replaced the bad front struts... (replaced back shocks too)...
You might also want to consider replacing the flexible lines w/stainless steel braided ones for better performance...

shaking and shimmy'ing is usually unbalanced wheel or warped rotor or uneven pads, mine did a real bad shake above 65 MPH and when breaking above 50MPH, replaced front rotors, and pads, and had all 4 wheels re balanced/weighted, and it shimmies stopped completely.

woo, been awhile, but i'm back. (was pulling some overtime to get a few more parts for the 350 that's going in the camaro.
Ok, new master cylinder took care of the brakes, you can't put the pedal down past an inch before the brakes start engaging, and the pedal's never been that firm.
As for the shaking, while it's definitely decreased by a lot, it's still there at high speeds, so i guess new pads are in order (checked the rotors while bleeding, they're fine).
And of course, thanks for the help![Smile](https://camaroforums.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
