Yes, go back to the shop NOW. Dont mess around with it or sit on your hands wondering, if it is actually knocking, they probably did something stupid. I only work in the parts business but I know alot of mechanics and some of them do some things to peoples cars that you wouldnt believe.

How does it run besides the knock? There is not much to screw up while putting a coil in. I can't even think of anything in that area that would cause a knock. You can take the belt off to see if its the AC unit. Don't run it longer then 30 seconds with out the belt.
If it turn out it is an internal engine issue and the mechanic did not have the engine apart your screwed. If the mechanic did anything it was during the test drive. You will never prove that.

the engine runs fine just has the knock and a lose heat sheild. i found out that a bad knock sensor could mess up the timing and make the engine knock, is that true?..the mechanic just blows me off cuz i didnt pay for the coils and the work.

You car should not "Knock" at idle with a broken knock sensor. The knock would be under load like up a hill and it would sound like marbles in you intake. Not a nice steady knock. Most likely if your knock sensor was bad it would set a engine light.
