Hey guys, got another issue with my 96 rs...i need to have the intake manifold gasket replaced on my 3.8 upper plenum, is there anything else that should be replaced/fixed while that is being done? that way i can let my mechanic know since he is working on it

 

Lower intake gasket failure is very common in the 3800. I would do both of them. When the lower fails it sometimes takes the motor with it. Other then that I can not think of anything else.

 

well the lower was replaced about a year ago by the same mechanic so if it does need replacing he will warranty it

 

Odd I would think you would have to do the upper when doing the lower. Maybe someone can say for sure but is it possible to do the lower intake without the upper. The intake would have to come out still attached to the plenum.

 

I would ask why the upper intake would not be under warranty? There are two lower intake bolts under the upper intake manifold. It would have to be removed before the lower intake could be done.

FYI: Most mechaincs warrany work 90 days.

 

you guys do have a valid point ill check with him tomorrow because yes makes no sense to replace just the lower and not the upper...ill let you guys know tomorrow
