Not true, in the later SLP RS models, you would get the Z28 muffler (+5HP), and options for SS sway bars, wheels, and a few other goodies. My '02 RS also came w/3.42 gears.

As for headers, if you have time, high enough ramps or jacks, beer and a buddy to help, go for it. Consider replacing your motor mounts while doing the job.

I know the slp rs got upgrades, the gm rs was merely appearance unless you got the y87 which mine came with.
