Default Idle Air Control Valve question...

I took the iac off today and got to lookin at it, it had some oil on it which i cleaned off along with the spot it came from, my questions are (part in hand) How easily should the shaft move? Does it mean the part is bad if it is difficult to move? If i were to adjust it to stay fully closed, will the car run / idle properly? If unplugged, will the car run? (i'm sure the ses light would be on in this case)

i searched a little bit but couldn't find much to answer my questions all help appreciated TIA

If your car would keep an idle, it would be very low. Why would you want to force it to stay closed?

Default RE: Idle Air Control Valve question...

Well first i don't like spending money that much, second i don't have the money for it this week, and third, my logic center asks these questions and this is the best place i know of to get them answered. HaHA After i removed it yesterday and cleaned it off, the idle has gotten higher from about 1500rpms when warmed up, sitting at a light makes it jump to 1700 (SES light will come on) and maybe 1300-1400 when cold. I have some tb cleaner handy to check for vacuum leaks which i'll do today and repost. My main goal is to try to temporarily remedy the problem until wednsday if possible. I'm gettin about 15 mpg (70% 30% split highway to city) so it's a little frustrating seeming like i'm always puting gas in it.

all help appreciated, TIA

Idle is supposed to be about 800-1000rpm, AFAIK.
