I need a fix for a leak...
I went to start my car right after a storm went through and it hydro locked. I have a 1995 3.4L Camaro. For people who might have the same problem its not a hard fix. All you have to do is remove the spark plugs and turn the ignition and it will spray the water out, a guide will say you have to remove the alternator, but you don't as long a you have a racket, extention, and a rotating socket. It is best to replace the plugs at this time and if it hasn't been done before, replace the sparkplug wire if needed. My problem was now I need a way to prevent this from happening again. The water convently leaked through the one thing that is supose to stop it. The plastic cowl between the windsheild and the hood. The cowl is composed of two parts that connect in the center. They slide right over one another. But it doesn't stop water from leaking down right onto my intake manifold. So if anybody has any ideas it would be great to here them.
Getting water on your intake manifold is not going to get into the engine, you probably went through a deep puddle and the engine sucked water through the intake air box. You are very lucky not to have broken a piston or connecting rod. Keep your eye on how it runs, as they usually do not survive hydrolock too well.
I wasn't driving when I had the problem. The car was just sitting. It was when Alberto the tropical storm came through. So lots of rain came down quick. I was told possibly a leak in the intake manifold gasket. The other thing was a leak in the head gasket but that seems unlikely because I don't have a loss of power, nor am I leaking anti-freeze. I still am not sure whats wrong.
