Ok so i have a 96 camaro v6. When i park the car like say in my garage, and i go sometimes, not always, but ususally it will start leaking gas all over and it drips down the side of the fuel tank. It dosent leak when its runnin tho really. I think if i loosen the gas cap up and releive the pressure it wont leak, but today i loosened the cap till the pressure was released, and then screwed it back on, but then when i went back out alittle while later gas was everywhere. What can i do? Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong? I think that somehow its not releaving the pressure for some reason so it like builds up and overflows out of the vent on top. I really dont know. Please help me tho i dont want to bring it to the chevy dealer and pay $500 bucks to have them look at it or whatever they would charge. Thanks in advance.

 

You're going to need to trace the leak a little better. Shut it off and jack the vehicle. Crawl under it and with a good flashlight, look for drips. You may have a screwy evap line.

 

Ok i shut it off and jacked it up and tried to trace the leak. Its kinda hard when all you can see is the bottom of the tank, but i am pretty sure its coming out the top and it leaks all over the sides and drips down the side and off the heat shield. So im not really sure what is on top of the tank, but is there like an oring that could be bad that its leaking out the top or somthing. Also i think it only leaks when its like on a full tank of gas and after i put 100 miles on or so it dosent as much. I can feel on top of the tank up there and i know its leaking all over so its not just one little spot. If anyone has any ideas at all please tell me i need HELP!!!!!!!!

 

its doing same thing mine did, dont fill ur tank up but to 3/4,s..... is your speaker box screwed in? cuz you screwed into the top of your gas tank, which btw, have you noticed that after you get to a 1/4 tank yourcheck engine light comes on? its not building up pressure and sending emissions sensor off, and also, i can put my car away for 2 days, and come back and be missin like a 1/4 tank of gas.... from it evaporating, not leaking. just drop tank and plug the holes, and mount subs somewhere else

 

My speaker box isnt screwed in, so its not that. Im thinking its smthing wrong with the vent on top. I guess i'll prolly just fill it up not so full and drive it if it works fine and then eventually try and get it fixed. Also my check engine light has never come on. Thanks for the help tho.
