i have a 97 v6 and it is missing the key fob i went to a shop and they said that they dont have compatibale onese because this model has a factory alarm on it? has anyone herd of this i never have and am stumped on where to get a new key fob. I tryed geting a regular one and the keyless entry box was gone

Have you tried a Chevy dealer?

 

It has to have factory keyless box to have an alarm. That is the way the alarm arms, when you lock the doors. Now if it was there and someone removed it then you could have an alarm. Either way, roll down the window, lock the doors with the switch on the door and then close the door and look at the dash, somewhere in your instrument cluster a security light or something similar should flash for about 30 sedconds or so. When done flashing, reach in and unlock the door with the slide button on the door and then open door, if it has an alarm you will know about it, horn will honk, lights flash. Put key in door cyliinder and unlock, this will disarm the alarm.
