So I ran by Car Toys today and was looking at car alarms. My 01 V6 coupe came with a factory installed alarm with the door locks and the hatch popper. I don't know if it has engine kill or not. Anyway...they guys there (of course) tell me that my factory alarm is crap and anyone can break into the car. I'm kind of thinking about getting an aftermarket alarm but worry that it will mess up something. So the question is...:

Do you have an aftermarket alarm? Are you happy with it? Did it cost less that $400? Anything I should be cautious of if I do let them install one?

theres some viper alarm i think its called, that if you get with-in like a few inches of the car it sets of the alarm, buddy of mines benz has it

 

Don't bother with aftermarket alarms if you have a factory one. All they are good for is to get you car stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Like i was told, and it was true, your aftermarket alarm will have a 50/50 chance of operating properly.

 

my factory alarm works great, the remote is shot tho. if you try to open the door, it goes off, if u use the key, it goes off after 2seconds, if you lean or sit or bump the car, goes off. only problem i have with it is, if u leave windows down, and u hit the manual lock on inside, u can get in, but dont leave ur windows down =P if they try to cral thru T-tops, goes off(like sitting on car.)
