Default Exhuast pipe from engine into the cat.

So i noticed my cars exhaust has gotten louder so i looked under the car and noticed the exhuast pipe coming down and going into my cat is loose. I can grab the pipe and can move it in and out of the cat. Is this suppossed to be welded or was there a clamp of some kind holding thwm together. I can feel the exhuast coming out between where they fit together. If it was welded does anyone know how much it would cost to just get it rewelded?

It will be much easier if you wen't to a muffler shop and find out what they charge. The cat is usually welded to a flange which is bolted to a flange welded to the Y pipe.

That's your Y pipe, and it shouldn't be able to be easily moved in and out, to and fro, up and down, or here and there.
Or are you meaning to say the cat can move around and slide over the stationary Y pipe, in any or all of the directions mentioned in the previous sentence?

Ok yes i can grab my cat and move it in and out of the y pipe. I do see where it was welded it must have just broke free and exhuast is escaping. Just got to get it rewelded.

Shouldn't cost that much, as long as there's still some solid metal to weld to.
Otherwise they could insert a sleeve piece. Either way, it'd be a 10-15 minute job tops.
