Default Exhaust port discoloration

I have a 3800 that I have taken out of a car. I previously did the intake seals on this car. It may have been overheated.

One exhaust port looks like this:

Size: 58.2 KB

The rest look like this:

Name: KIMG0047.jpg
Views: 21
Size: 60.6 KB

Is this cause for a teardown? Thanks.

How did the plug look? Looks like you might be eating some oil, I would do a leak down test on that cylinder. Could be the Intake valve seal.

Intake gasket is one thing they all need but would not put a huge effort into fixing a 3800 SII when you can buy a 2008 SIII with 20K on it for $600.

I don't remember what the plug looked like. It might have been a little oily. But I took a look at the gasket and it had oil around that port. So it is certainly using oil, just not sure if it's a valve seal or not. I suppose I should find a leakdown tester. Thanks.

Not really sure how to call this one. One port has shiney black stuff that looks like oil deposits but the valve looks normal, the other port has a green valve and port that would tell me that small amounts of coolant (if you are using green) are being burnt.

Like Gorn said it is cheaper to get a "new" used SIII for $600 or so over rebuilding yours. There is a thread in the V6 section that will let you know what years and models you can pull and engine from and also what parts that need to be changed between FWD and RWD.

I am not craby. My 93 LT1 is not running yet

I noticed the valve also that is why I asked about the plugs. Plugs don't lie. If the valve cover was leaking really bad it could have soaked into the exhaust port but the motor does look real clean. If it was mine and I did not have access to a leak down tester I would replace the intake seal (thats easy) and run it a 1000 miles then pull the plug.
