Default Engine "misses"

I have a 96 camaro rs with the 3.8 v6 in it...My issue is there are days when my car when I start will sound like it "misses" when just idling...then at the same time it will miss when i accelerate slowly or stopped somewhere...but then on other days it doesnt do nothing at all...my check engine light came on a few times but thats when it doesnt miss and usually comes up with a p1406 code(egr valve)...what can be causing the "missing"?

The PCM is telling you what the problem is, apparently the EGR is not working properly. Most likely staying open when it should be closed.

P1406 EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit Fault
This code is typically caused by carbon buildup in the EGR valve. The carbon deposits prevent the valve from closing completely. After removing the EGR valve, clean the pintle seat area of the valve and the corresponding passageway in the engine.
Clean pintle and all passages with carb cleaner, choke cleaner, or similar nasty solvents. Leave the electrical contacts alone, but if you can't resist the opportunity, use contact cleaner fluid (Radio Shack), don't use solvents on electrical stuff.

Z28- Are there any risks of using the cleaner on the egr valve?

It won't hurt the valve itself, but keep it away from wiring and connectors, as the chemical may dissolve or otherwise damage them. That stuff can penetrate the skin, so wear gloves. Latex gloves will melt.
