Default dropping engine. need wiring help

Rebuilding the engine on a friends camaro and the problem I'm having now is what to do witht he wring? Does the harness come off the engine and then you drop it. Or does the harness stay with the engine? If its the first one then how the hell do you get behind the engine to get to all the wiring back there. Is there a write up anywhere about this?

Thanks

Its an 02 btw

You can do it both ways. If you can google camaro engine removal and find several write ups. If you are going to take the wiring harness with the engine, you have to get in on the passenger side and disconnect the harness from inside the car. Are you taking engine out the top or bottom? I have taken 2 (3.8's) out the bottom. I disconnected the wiring at the engine on everything I could reach and then removed the bolts that held in the engine cradle and as we started lifting the body up a couple inches, you can reach behind the engine and unsnap the wiring retainers that are connected on the 2 tranny bolts where the bundle of wires are laying across the back of the engine.

Another way is to drop the tranny crossmember and let the engine and tranny tilt back a few inches and use a long extension and socket to remove the top tranny bolts that are holding the wiring harness on the back of the motor.

One other thing, don't forget to unplug the wires under the engine such as the knock sensors, oil level switch on oil pan, speed sensor on tranny tail, O2 sensors and the ABS connections (if your going out the bottom).
