Default delete the oil filter bypass question

I have a 97 that I bought with blown gasket somewere but was full of antifreeze. So I was not even going to mess with it do to needing all new bearings and everything I know what antifreeze does to bearings. So I used a grand prix motor and switched everything over well I had to switch the oil filter housing. But I was reading on another site and they were telling another guy you have to mod the bypass other wise it will stick and cause unfiltered oil to get to the bearings. I am not going to send it to this guy to have done. But I am looking for more information on what this is all about.

So is it really as big of a deal as they are making it sound. I didn't have the previos motor come apart just bad gasket and filled with antifreeze. I am driving the car every day right know till it starts to snow which I hope is not any time soon so I can buy tires for my silverado. So I din't really want to send it out and have down time.

and without the bypass, your oil pressure will slowly decrease as the filter becomes more and more clogged. so when you are out screwing around with the car at redline, you may or may not have good enough oil pressure because it can't bypass the filter
