Default a/c delete question

I am getting ready to take the a/c out of my car and need to find out about the cover that goes on the firewall.I have seen delete panels sold for this for about $150,but are these really needed or will the same blower cover for a non a/c car work, they are alot cheaper so if i can make the regular one work it would be great.

There are AC delete panels that allow you to keep the heater out there.

Yes, you could install the A/C delete panel modified to install the factory heater box over it. Might be able to just lay the heater box over it and cut out for the heater core and fan motor. Might also consider just getting the stock heater box with fan, then use sheetmetal to close in above and below that, as it's narrower than the A/C box.

Thanks for that advice, that's what i was wondering is if i could make the non a/c standard cover work.I think thats probably what i'll do like you said just fill the extra with sheet metal,i'm not building a show car so i dont care if it doesnt look perfect.

Does the a/c still work? My 78 never had a/c and since its my car is my daily driver, how hard would installing it be? It needs a whole new dash
Already thanks to cracks and sun damage, if it works well I may buy the system off you lol

Not sure if it still worked or not, most of the parts were already taken off and laying in the trunk when i bought the car and a few peices were missing.I'm not sure how hard it would be,i'm guessing it would be a pretty good size job to put a factory a/c unit in.They are fairly expensive, but there are a few companies that sell aftermarket systems that would probably be alot easier to install.
