Default cooling fans

I did all the standard checks (I think) on my 3.8 v6 cooling fans. I had one last question. Does each fan have a hi and low setting or are they always one speed? I have replaced the thermostat, temp sensor and bleed the system. the fans work with the a/c on max and when I disconnect the temp sensor wire. Any ideas or help would be great........1SG

There's only one speed. The fans also only come on when the engine hits a certain temp. With the sensor disconnected it goes into safe mode and runs the fans. With the a/c on it runs the fans to remove the heat from the coil so that your car becomes cold. You can always check your fan relays.

I have moved the relays around a bit, under the hood, just to see if the different one worked........1SG

Two speeds are possible (High & Low), as SLP's Fan Control Switch can do either, see:

Are your fans just not working when your engine is running?

I didn't know if this was common but same thing happened to me, i just bought a grounded switch and ran it from the where the relay was to the dash so i cam turn them on manually. not a long term solution but i haven't had a problem, cost me like $10 at o'rielys
