Coolant fan direction
Hello,
For 2001 3.8, which way is the output of the radiator fan supposed to blow--toward the engine or toward the radiatior?
Also, if I wanted to verify the accuracy of the dash coolant temp gauge, where should I place the test gauge. I was hoping to place it somewhere on the outside of the engine to simplify the process. I believe I should get a good approximation of the temp. All comments are welcomed. Thanks.

ALWAYS ALWAYS the fans blow from outside fresh cool air. This means that the airflow will be going to the engine.
Temp gauge in the car is not bad but not as accurate as a tester will be. If you are having overheating issues an infrared thermometer is a great tool to find where the overheating is occuring, if you really need an accurate engine temp reading for other purposes then Autometer and others make good gauges you can mount in a pod or on the console.

The 3.8s like to run right around 210° which should be the middle of your factory gauge. A little over/under is ok too. Overheating is anything 3/4 of the gauge or more, but i dont know the exact temp.
