Default Change Oil Light

So this morning I got in my Camaro to go to school, and after about a mile or so of driving my "change oil" light came on. I figured that couldn't be right since I change it with Mobil 1 synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter not even 500 miles ago. After about another mile or so of driving it went off. I'm thinking that it came on because my oil temp wasn't high enough.

Sounds like a waste to put Mobil 1 in a 3.8 -- why not do the SuperTech synthetic? It's maybe 1/2 the cost... I'm using it in both my Camaros and SuperTech filters (much better than Fram)

Sounds like someone forgot to reset the oil checking system at oil change time -- check you Owners Manual...

I didn't have this problem before about 500 miles ago, just now its starting to happen. Thats probably it though, I didn't reset anything when I changed the oil. I don't have an owners manual, or a Haynes manual. Just on my dad had when he had the Trans Am and that only covers 93-96 his version. It should be about the same though right? Can I reset the oil checking system now? If so how do you do it?

put the keys in the ignition in "RUN" mode. Don't start the car. Then HOLD the TRIP button and the oil light should blink five times indicating that it has reset it self. The car is programmed to show up like that every 5000 miles

Go buy a Haynes, Chilton or GM Service manual... You'll be glad you did later...
