I'm starting to wonder if it might be the oil pickup touching the oil pan. After all it seems to be a rather common problem on the 3.8's. Sorry, but the only whineing mine makes is right after startup from the alternator and that quickly dies down to nothing. Of course I've already had to replace my oil pan but I never had this problem.

Has anyone used a stethoscope (or a screwdriver blunt end to the ear) and listened around the pan?

I guess that's a "no" to checking for oil pick up to pan contact?

The pan I put on was a bit deeper then the pan I took off. Could have been a bad lot of oil pans. Just my thoughts from what's been said and what I heard with some Fiat 124's until the engines seized.
