Can't Get above 2000 rpm
Ok, heres the deal, I just bought a 93 3.4 5 Speed. I will be dropping an LT1 in about 6 months, but for the time being I planned on driving the car. Got the car and it ran pretty good, at idle sometimes the car ran just a little rough but nothing crazy. When i accelerated hard it would move right along with it slightly breaking up from 4500-5500 rpm. I was driving yesterday and all the sudden it started popping through the exhaust and the tach went crazy along with the ses light flashing, then it stalled. I stopped let it sit and after a few minutes she started back up and you rev it up and its fine until about 2000 rpm then it starts popping and missing and sometimes will stall and sometimes will idle back down. At idle the car runs fine. The motor has 70000 on it and is clean and in pretty good shape any ideas on what the hell this could be? I thought it could possibly be the fuel pump however you can hear it and it sounds like normal. Its got to be an ignition issue or possibly starving for fuel. Please let me know what you guys think

RE: Can't Get above 2000 rpm
The car has 140 K on it the motor has 70K, the guy who had it before me had taken the cat out so it didn't have one at all and it was running fine for the past week, what do u think of a crank sensor or ignition module?

Well it sounds liketheignition module to me but it also sounds like the motor isn't getting enough fuel is it spits and pops. From what I'm hearing it sounds like a electrical problem but yeah it probably isn't a crank senor but more along the linesof the fuel or ignition systemproblem.

As I said before, the crank sensor in front stabilizes the spark timing from idle to about 2000 RPM. The crank sensor on the side of the block provides spark timing at startup and at over 2000 RPM where the front sensor leaves off.

Ok so I ended up putting the car on a scanner and it was saying that the front crank sensor which is located behind the balancer was bad, so I got a new one put it on and still nothing, it was still dying at about 2000-3000 rpm. I figured I would try the ignition control module next so I got a new one of them slapped it on and it worked, she runs great now just thought I'd let you guys know
